Details
The course combines group lessons in the morning with one-to-one lessons in the afternoon on the theme you choose: literature, cinema, art, archaeology or cities of art.
In the one-to-one lessons you can suggest the authors, works or cities you are most interested in. The themes are described below.
The course is for levels A2 to C2. Your level is set by a placement test and a short online interview before the course starts.
The themes
Choose one of these themes. Your one-to-one lessons in the afternoon focus on it.
Italian literature
For students who wish to learn Italian through literature. In the one-to-one lessons you are welcome to select the authors you prefer and work on the topics you need for your academic or professional purposes.
In addition to the In italiano. Il corso method and authentic literary texts, we use textbooks developed with two aims: to improve your understanding of literary texts and to help you appreciate their style.
Cinema
Learn and practise Italian while learning more about Italian cinema. We will work on the photography of famous directors, the art of dubbing and directing styles. We will watch excerpts from masterpieces of Italian film, with special reference to Roberto Rossellini, Luchino Visconti and Federico Fellini.
Art
We will study Italian through the great periods of Italian art and through the Greek and Roman art traditions. We will discuss in Italian the masterpieces of Leonardo da Vinci, Caravaggio, the Renaissance and the Baroque.
Archaeology
We will deepen your Italian by studying the most important sites of Italian archaeology: Pompeii and Herculaneum, the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento, Selinunte, Hadrian’s Villa.
Cities of art
Each afternoon lesson puts the emphasis on conversation and fluency while you get ready for your journey in Italy: how to get to the city you wish to visit, what to see, typical food and products, festivals, legends, curiosities and anecdotes. In the one-to-one lessons you are welcome to suggest the cities of art you are most interested in.
