When can I start my course?
Beginners and non-beginners start on the dates listed in the calendar. Classes run from Monday to Friday. If you need a different start date (always a Monday), please contact us.
You can find the start dates on the calendar and fees page.
Is there a meeting before the course starts?

What happens on the first day?
At 9:00 we will give you information about Assisi and the school's services. Classes are formed according to the levels established by the entrance test and the online interview.
Are there days when the school is closed?
Yes, on the holidays listed in the calendar. Closing days do not extend your course. When you choose your dates in the configurator, you can see the ones that fall within your period.
Courses and method
What is the school's teaching method?
We use a communicative-situational method, created by Angelo and Gaia Chiuchiù, that helps you progress quickly, with a clear understanding of each learning step. Besides coursebooks, we work with authentic material: literary texts, works of art, classic films, opera. From the first day, at every level, only Italian is spoken.
Learn more on the method page.
What is the difference between Standard, Intensive and Super intensive courses?
The Standard course has 18 group lessons a week, in the morning. The Intensive course adds 4 individual lessons in the afternoon (22 in total); the Super intensive course adds 8 (26 in total).
See the Intensive and Super intensive courses.
What are the class times?
Group lessons run from Monday to Thursday, 9:00 to 12:40, and on Friday, 9:00 to 11:00. Individual lessons are in the afternoon, starting at 14:00 or 16:00. Each lesson lasts 50 minutes.

The director of the school is Angelo Chiuchiù; the course director is Gaia Chiuchiù.
Who are the teachers?
Our teachers have a university background in applied linguistics or Italian literature and have attended the teacher-training programs held by Prof. Angelo Chiuchiù.

Find out more about the method and materials.
Can I take a certification exam in Assisi?
Yes. The Accademia is an exam center for CILS (University for Foreigners of Siena) and CERT.IT (Roma Tre University). Intensive and Super intensive courses can be focused on exam preparation.
Which certificates do you issue? Can I earn credits?
At the end of the course we issue an attendance certificate. Credits (CFU) are awarded after passing an exam, which requires some extra hours of self-study.
For exams, credits and levels, see the certification exams, credits and levels page.
Do you also offer online courses or private lessons?
Yes. Private lessons can be one-to-one, for two, for three or for a small group. Online courses follow the same method as our courses in Assisi.

Accommodation
How does the accommodation work?
You can choose an independent flat or a single or double room in a flat. Double rooms are meant for two people who arrive together and wish to share.
Flats are in the historic center of Assisi, no more than 5 minutes' walk from the Academy, and are reserved for our students. They are fully furnished, with kitchens supplied with all the essentials (cutlery, plates, pans), bed linen, towels, a washing machine and free Wi-Fi. If you choose a room, kitchen and bathroom are shared with the other students in the flat, unless the room is listed as having a private bathroom.
Heating and electricity costs are not included and are paid according to consumption. The flat is cleaned before your arrival; during your stay there is no cleaning service, and you and your flatmates take care of your room and of the shared spaces.
Italy uses a 220 V system: you may need a plug adapter.
When your enrollment is confirmed you will receive a description of the flat with photos, floor plan, distance from the Academy, the owner's contact details and conditions.
See all the options on the accommodation page.
How long can I stay?
From the day before your course starts until the morning after it ends.
Is there a security deposit?
Yes, €150, paid in cash when the keys are handed over. It is refunded in full at check-out if there is no damage.
How do I get to my flat?
You will receive the contact details of the person who will meet you at the flat.
If you arrive at the train station, we suggest taking the bus to the city center: one bus every 20 minutes, ticket €1.30 (€2.00 on board). A taxi from the station to the center (about 2 km) costs around €15–20 (Radio Taxi Assisi: +39 075 813100).
Life in Assisi
Are activities included in the course?
Yes. All courses include workshops (bookbinding, cookery, tastings) and visits to craft workshops and museums.
Discover the full program on the activities, facilities and workshops page.
Where can I eat?
Students who live in flats can use the kitchen and prepare their own meals. At the beginning of the course you receive the Academy student card, which gives you discounts in restaurants, pizzerias and trattorias (from €6 to €20 for a full meal).
Where can I find what I need in town?
We have prepared a map of useful places for your stay in Assisi.
Insurance
Are students insured?
No. Students are not insured against illness, accidents, theft or loss of personal belongings, either at the school or at the place of accommodation. We recommend taking out travel insurance before you leave.
